Our History
Decades of local radio across the tri-state region.

Glenora Radio Network is built on decades of local radio service across western New York, northwestern Pennsylvania and northeast Ohio. Our 14 stations connect the communities of Jamestown, Erie, Warren, Ashtabula and the surrounding region through trusted programming, local news and the kind of familiarity that only comes from being genuinely part of a place.

How Our Stations Came Together

2002
Our Jamestown roots took hold with the acquisition of WWSE and WJTN in Chautauqua County's largest city — the birthplace of Lucille Ball, home to the National Comedy Center and the world-renowned Chautauqua Institution. It established a foundation in a market with a deep sense of local identity.
2004
WHUG, WKSN and WQFX joined the Jamestown cluster, bringing all five of the market's locally owned stations under one roof for the first time. A renovation of the Orchard Road Studios consolidated administration, sales and broadcast operations into a single facility.
2007
Five Ashtabula-area stations — WREO, WYBL, WFXJ, WZOO and WFUN — were acquired from Clear Channel Communications, extending the network's reach into northeast Ohio and creating the tri-state regional footprint that defines the group today.
2018
Two additions rounded out the Jamestown market. In January, the FCC granted an FM translator for WJTN, and by May, WJTN's programming began simulcasting on both 1240 AM and the new 101.3 FM — giving Jamestown listeners an FM option for the first time. In August, WKZA was acquired from Cross Country Communications, a Class B-1 FM station relocated to the Orchard Road broadcast headquarters.
2026
In mid-May 2026, Glenora Radio Network became the owner and operator of all 14 stations, uniting the group under new ownership with a continued commitment to local service across Erie, Warren, Ashtabula and Jamestown.

Station Histories

92 Gold WRRN · 92.3 FM · Warren, PA

92 Gold has one of the longest continuous histories of any station in the region. It first signed on in March 1949 as WNAE-FM 92.1, the FM sister station of WNAE-AM, with Northern Allegheny Broadcasting as the original licensee of both stations. The station moved to 92.3 FM and adopted the call letters WRRN in April 1951, beginning with an effective radiated power of 3,000 watts. Over the following decades, the station steadily grew its signal — reaching 26,000 watts by the 1970s and 50,000 watts by the 1980s.

For much of its early history, WRRN was known as "Easy 92.3," presenting the beautiful music format that defined adult radio in small and mid-sized markets for a generation. In 1974, both WRRN and sister station WNAE were sold by Northern Allegheny Broadcasting to Kinzua Broadcasting Company.

WRRN transitioned to an oldies format in 2002 and then to classic hits in 2014, establishing the 92 Gold brand that continues today. In 2006, Kibco Radio sold WRRN, WKNB and WNAE to Radio Partners, LLC. The stations were subsequently acquired in 2019 by Lilly Broadcasting, which also operates television stations WICU and WSEE in Erie, and joined the Glenora Radio Network family in 2026.

HAPPI 927 WICU · 92.7 FM / 1310 AM · Erie & Warren, PA

HAPPI 927 has a uniquely local origin story. The station first signed on November 9, 2012 with a distinctive concept: playing songs with the word "happy" in the title. One week later, on November 16, 2012 at noon, it officially launched as HAPPI 927, shifting to a broader contemporary hit music format while keeping its upbeat identity. The station's original studios were located at 13th and State Street in downtown Erie.

In late 2019, Lilly Broadcasting — the company behind local television stations WICU and WSEE — purchased the station. The call letters were changed from WEHP to WICU-FM, aligning the station with the established WICU television brand.

HAPPI's reach expanded in early 2020 when WNAE 1310 AM in Warren changed its call letters to WICU-AM and began simulcasting HAPPI 927. Warren-area listeners can also find the station on 96.7 FM. In September 2021, HAPPI moved its operations to the State Street facility that houses the WICU and WSEE television stations, consolidating the Erie media presence under one roof.

104.3 Kinzua Country WNAE · 104.3 FM · Warren, PA

104.3 Kinzua Country's history traces back to March 1993, when it first signed on as WOVU 106.9 FM. The station was granted a construction permit to relocate to 104.3 FM in November 1994 and adopted the call letters WKNB in July 1995, building its identity as the country voice of the Warren, Pennsylvania market.

In 2006, Kibco Radio sold WKNB along with sister stations WRRN and WNAE to Radio Partners, LLC. The group was subsequently purchased in 2019 by Lilly Broadcasting.

In early 2020, 104.3 Kinzua Country changed its call letters from WKNB to WNAE — a deliberate choice to preserve a piece of local radio heritage. The WNAE call letters had originally belonged to the 1310 AM station in Warren, which gave up that designation when it became WICU-AM and began simulcasting HAPPI 927. Reclaiming the WNAE name was actually the third time those call letters had been assigned to an FM signal: WNAE was also used on 102.7 FM from 2007 until 2011, when that frequency simulcast Kinzua Country's programming. The Kinzua Country brand and its WNAE call letters continue today under Glenora Radio Network.
